The Chosen (part 4)

The Chosen does not present sin as the Bible presents sin. 

In the Bible, sin is presented as a horrible thing.  Sin separates us from God.  Sin is like a slap in the face to God.  Sin is rebellion against God.  Yet in the Chosen I see Jesus on occasion laughing at those in sin, as if no big deal.  This goes along with our current culture which says no big deal, I'm only human.  No, in the Bible, Christians are called to live Holy lives.  We are called to a higher standard as we are ambassadors for Christ.

6 “But if you cause one of these little ones who trusts in me to fall into sin, it would be better for you to have a large millstone tied around your neck and be drowned in the depths of the sea.7 “What sorrow awaits the world, because it tempts people to sin. Temptations are inevitable, but what sorrow awaits the person who does the tempting.8 So if your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one hand or one foot than to be thrown into eternal fire with both of your hands and feet.9 Matthew 18:6-9

Your boasting about this is terrible. Don’t you realize that this sin is like a little yeast that spreads through the whole batch of dough? 7 Get rid of the old “yeast” by removing this wicked person from among you. Then you will be like a fresh batch of dough made without yeast, which is what you really are. Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us. 1 Corinthians 5:6-7

12 It isn’t my responsibility to judge outsiders, but it certainly is your responsibility to judge those inside the church who are sinning. 13 God will judge those on the outside; but as the Scriptures say, “You must remove the evil person from among you.” 1 Corinthians 5:12-13

20 Those who sin should be reprimanded in front of the whole church; this will serve as a strong warning to others. 1 Timothy 5:20

5 But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. 16 For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:15-16

21 It would be better if they had never known the way to righteousness than to know it and then reject the command they were given to live a holy life. 2 Peter 2:21
