The Chosen (Part 3)

The Chosen is about making Jesus appear like us.

It makes Jesus, who is Almighty God, into one of us.  Yes, God came down and became a man, but he was unique, the only one of His kind, the only begotten Son, the perfect man.  He is Emmanuel, "God" with us.  He was 100% human and 100% God.  He was like us, yet not like us since He never sinned and was perfect.  He slept, he ate, he cried, he had a physical birth.  Yes, He was fully human, but He was perfect.  The Chosen diminishes this perfection, it diminishes Jesus into an ordinary man, and diminishing Him in any way means you are presenting a different Jesus, a false Jesus.  When you so humanize Jesus as in the Chosen, you lose the awe and reverence you should have for Jesus.

15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. Colossians 1:15-20

The best way to damage the truth of the gospel is to turn Jesus into something that He isn't because a false Jesus cannot save!

In Season 2, Episode 8 Jesus is shown rehearsing the sermon on the mount.  He runs it past Matthew as though He needed his opinion.  This is what an ordinary man might do.  However, the creator of the universe does not need to rehearse.  The creator of the universe does not need tips about His sermon!  I was offended!

In another episode they show Jesus getting arrested/detained and then returned. (Season 2, Episode 7).  This episode is completely fictional.  There is no scripture for this.  In scripture Jesus is never arrested or taken by anyone until He says it is His hour.  In fact, Jesus makes big points in scripture saying it is not yet His hour.  Jesus was in control of when and even how He was arrested. The Chosen, however, leaves this out. The fact that they take creative license with the Word of God is offensive to me!  The creators of the chosen do not understand the reverence we are to have for Jesus -- He is the 2nd person of the Trinity.  He is God Almighty in the flesh!

He spoke these words while teaching in the temple courts near the place where the offerings were put. Yet no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come. John 8:20

At this they tried to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come. John 7:30

Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp. John 10:39
