The Eve Mentality  (Part 1)

1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’? ”

2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”

4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. Genesis 3:1-7

From the story in Genesis notice how satan speaks to Eve and not to Adam.  Why Eve?  Why did he go to the woman? Was it intentional?  Yes, I believe it was.  God has established an order for men and women in scripture. God’s order is from man to woman.

3 But I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. 1 Corinthians 11:3

Satan, in direct conflict with God, went to the woman rather than the man.  It was intentional.  God’s order is one way – the serpent’s order is another way. As Ray Ortlund writes “Eve usurped Adam’s headship and led the way into sin.  And Adam stood by passively, allowing the deception to process without decisive intervention.” Adam for his part abandoned his post as head.  Eve was deceived and Adam forsook his responsibility.

God’s way is man to woman.  Satan’s way is woman to man.

Notice also that Eve was not satisfied with what God had told her.  She reasoned in her own mind that eating the fruit was a good thing.  She tells herself this is good:  good to eat, good for my body, pleasing to see and eat, and it would give her wisdom.  Eve reasoned in her mind, decided that God's Word was wrong, decided that God's Word was not sufficient, and usurped Adam's authority by making this decision.  At this moment Eve decided she was smarter than God.  At this moment Eve clearly decided she was God.  At this moment Eve decided she needed something more than what God had said.  He was not enough.  His Word was not enough.

Is not this same thought process repeated today?  Absolutely! There are a plethora of women’s book studies that are not really Bible Studies at all.  They are more of a self-help seminar, a feel good conference, than actual Bible Study.  Women flock to see other women that clearly do not teach the truth such as Beth Moore, Joyce Meyer, Christine Caine, Priscilla Shirer and Lysa Teurkeurst to name a few.  These women also preach and teach men?  They feel women can do anything men can do and ignore God's order.  They do not submit to the Word of God.  They are in rebellion to God's way as indicated in scripture.  I find it interesting that Priscilla Shirer's website ministry is entitled "Going beyond".  Indeed, God's Word is not enough and they go beyond it….they go around it.  Even women that agree that women should not be pastors of a church will flock to these women teachers. I do not understand why?  If you agree that God has different roles for men and women then why do you support women who preach to men?

3 But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. 1 Corinthians 11:3 (NKJV)

2 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Ephesians 5:22-24 (NKJV)
